1964 Gretsch Country Gentleman, “George Harrison” Model

A bit of this guitar’s history from the seller:

“I bought the guitar in 2016 from my friend, Karl Keaton, an American Pop singer living in Vilseck, Germany.

Karl purchased the guitar from Riedel Music shop in Amberg in about 1976.

He loaned it to a Studio Musician friend, who used it recording with Milli Vanilli in Munich.

He returned it to Karl in quite bad condition; parts missing, dirty, binding rotten.

Body was OK, Truss rod looked like spaghetti.

Karl retired from the Military in Vilseck, and opened a Bar there in 1995, and hung the guitar on the wall.

The Bar closed in 2015, and Karl sold the guitar.  He thought it was a 1972.

The Serial Number is correct for 1964, but that it has an extra 2 at the end, denoting an export.

The Music Store Tag for the original sale is behind the Amberg Tag”

“The guitar has been totally reconditioned / restored with original and correct replacement parts.

The finish is original, with painted F-holes. Binding has been replaced and repaired.

It was a lot of work to find a Luthier who would take on such a job; several refused.

A year with the first Luthier, Jake de Villers, then more finish work with Darcy, finished in 2024.”
